Welcome to the Bereaved Families of Nova Scotia website. BFNS provides programs and services to help you cope with loss and grief as a result of the death of a loved one.

"I now know it is time to take care of myself."

"ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS I MADE IN MY LIFE"

I attended apprehensive but hopefully. In the beginning I was not much of a participant but soon I began to feel more and more comfortable. The turning point for me was when I realized that I wasn't alone.

Although no one participant's loss was the same, each one of us had a significant other pass and we all were grieving. Once each one of us shared our personal story I noticed we were becoming one, learning from one another, feeling empathy, a heartfelt compassion for each other - a bond like no other.

From then on, I looked forward to the next meeting with anticipation.

Each meeting I became more confident, more willing to participate.

I felt a sense of belonging! So much so I signed up for an additional 6 weeks of the program.

I now know it is time to take care of myself.

Today as I go about my day, I feel more confident as I move forward.

I am participating in more and more activities. Meeting new people and knowing that I will be alright; that I will continue to move forward.

I know now that life must go on; that I have a purpose or otherwise I wouldn't be here.

~ Wallace Robinson, Loss of a Spouse/Partner program, February 2024
